Description: The Rejang are a Malay people living on the island of Sumatra. Their language and culture is related to the large Minangkabau tribe. Like other smaller ethnicities in Sumatra, they are primarily subsistence farmers, though they grow coffee as a cash-crop.
Prayer Points:
• The Rejang tradition of marrying young is clashing with modern pressures, such as mandatory schooling. Because of this many of these marriages end in divorce within months and the school-dropout rate is very high. Pray for the Spirit of God to come into this society and bring healing through Scriptural truths of family and marriage.
• There is no Bible translation or other resources in the Rejang language, and no active Church-planting work among them. Pray that believers from the nearby city of Bengkulu might catch a vision for reaching out to them.
• The eldest man in a Rejang village is accorded great honor as the chief mediator and officiator over village ceremonies. Pray that these eyes of these elders might be opened to see Jesus as Savior and Lord.
