August 10 / Marathi Muslims

Description: The Marathi Muslims are a cluster of peoples which speak Marathi as their mother tongue. Their origins are diverse, from the earliest 7th century Egyptian immigrants, to the mass conversions of upper caste Hindus during the 12th century Moghul invasion, to South Indian Muslim professional castes who came to serve during periods of Muslim imperial rule.

Prayer Points:
• A recent breakthrough led by several indigenous Marathi Muslim backround believers has resulted in around 100 house fellowships among both high and low castes in Mumbai. Pray for God's protection over these two leaders and for continued open doors for them to share Jesus in the Marathi Muslim community.
• Marathi Muslims enjoyed a priveleged position under Muslim rule. Today around 85% of them live at or below the poverty line for India. Pray for Christ-centered community development ministries to be raised up on their behalf.
• Around 35% of Maharashtra's jail population are Marathi Muslims, yet they are just 10% of the state's population. Pray for specialized ministry to this prison population that will set them free both spiritually and physically.

A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the only hope and answer for the Marathi Muslims. Open their eyes to see the majesty of your Son Jesus and open their hearts to accept his salvation.

Every year 54,000 Marathi Muslims die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
