Description: The Magadhi are the descendants of a powerful kingdom and people that ruled are large area of North West India. They are a major ethnic sub-group of the Bihari cluster, which includes Maithili and Bhojpuri. Their language has a rich literary history in its ancient form known as Pali.
Prayer Points:
• Magadhi is the modern form of the language spoken by Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism, as well as the Magadh King Ashoka, who spread Buddhism all over India. Pray that this rich cultural history might one day inspire the Magadhi to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the Indian subcontinent.
• The Magadhi are sometimes looked down on by other Bihari peoples, such as the Maithili, because they have a lower percentage of high castes in their society. Pray that they might be lifted up into heavenly places through Christ and might find in him all they need for purpose and meaning in life.
• One of the most unreached sub-groups among the Magadhi are the Koiri. They are traditionally cultivators and were exploited by the British empire for growing opium. Pray that the love of God would liberate and heal the Koiri from this unfortunate past and that they might become a people of blessing to the world.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, demonstrate your power among the Magadhi through transformed lives and families that embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Every year 180,000 Magahis die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
