Description: The Garhwali are a Himalayan ethnicity who speak a language related to other Pahari groups such as the Kaomani. They are composed primarily of high-caste background families. It is believed they fled to the safety of the Himalayas as a result of Muslim invasions in the middle ages.
Prayer Points:
• Around forty percent of the Garhwali are Brahmins, the priestly caste in India. There are very few believers among them, and conversion to Christianity is considered akin to treason. Pray for those few believers from the Garhwali Brahmin that they would stand firm in their faith and continue to let the love of Christ shine through their lives.
• The Garhwali engage in spirit-worship ceremonies called Jaggar, in which dancers become possessed and then speak as an oracle. During this ceremony the dancers are said to be able to lick and touch red-hot metal coals without being harmed. Pray for deliverance from spiritual oppression, especially for new believers.
• The Garhwali New Testament was first translated in 1830. It is in need of updating. Pray for God's blessing on this vital project.
