Description: The Nuristani are a confederacy of thirty Indo-Iranian tribes who live primarily in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan's Nuristan province. Before their conversion to Islam they practiced an ancient form of Hinduism known as Vedism. The word Nuristan means "land of light."
Prayer Points:
• For centuries the Nuristani were persecuted as "kafirs" (unbelievers) by their Muslim neighbors and only recently were forcibly converted to Islam around one hundred years ago. Pray that they might see Christ as their liberator from spiritual bondage and oppression and for courage to stand up for the truth.
• Pakistan has intentionally engaged in a campaign to destablize Nuristan by funding anti-Afghan militias. Pray for peace to come to this region and that the spiritual principalities of war might be bound under the power of Jesus.
• The remoteness of the Nuristani has made missionary work among them extremely difficult. Pray for long-term witness in Nuristan's capital, Parun, that will become a missionary base for reaching the entire province.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the God of the impossible. We pray that your supernatural power would break through in the midst of the Nuristani that none should perish, but all be saved through Jesus.
Every year 1,000 Nuristani die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
