Description: Muslims are a small minority among the Kannada speaking peoples, and those that converted centuries ago from Hinduism are primarily from laborer castes. The majority are known as the Pinjara, whose historic occupation is working with cotton to prepare it for cloth making.
Prayer Points:
• Kannadiga Muslims have a low literacy rate and few children complete secondary education, especially girls. They prefer instead to send them to madrassas to learn the Quran and the Urdu language. Pray for an open door for Christian education among them, and for a change in heart among Kannadiga Muslim parents
• The Kannadiga Muslims are often exploited by money-lenders who charge them high interest. Pray that the gospel might transform their lives and liberate them from oppressive systemic poverty.
• Many Kannadiga Muslims practice a syncretistic blend of ancestor worship and Islam. During the feast of Shaban, they offer sweets to their ancestors in exchange for good fortune. Pray that such superstition might be replaced by a genuine faith in Christ who works out everything for our good.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you alone hold the answers the Kaddiga Muslims are searching for. May they find them through knowing your son Jesus and embracing the hope he alone can bring.
Every year 15,000 Kannadiga Muslims die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
