Description: The Afghan Uzbeks are the largest Turkic people living in Afghanistan. Beginning in teh 16th century, they began to migrate in large numbers from Central Asia into Northern Afghanistan. Over time they intermarried with local Iranian peoples and developed into a unique sub-group among the Uzbek people.
Prayer Points:
• The Afghan Uzbeks were a major player in the Northern Alliance which defeated the Pashtun-led Taliban. There is still ethnic tension between Uzbeks and their neighbors. Pray that they might become the future peacemakers of their nation and agents of reconciliation through Christ.
• The Uzbek are fiercely independent and could one day form their own self- governance. Pray that their would be openness to the gospel in the territories which they control.
• Afghan Uzbek women are famous for the oriental rugs which they make by hand, and considerable income is generated from this productivity. Pray that this creativity and wealth might be used to advance God's kingdom throughout Afghanistan and beyond.
