Description: The Marathi people (also known as Mahratta or Maharashtrian) are the major ethnicity in the Indian state of Maharasthra. In the 17th century the Marathi formed a powerful empire which ended Muslim rule in India.
Prayer Points:
• Many Marathi communities have traditional councils which regulate social behavior. Pray that these councils might embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ for their people.
• The Maratti are devout followers of the Hindu god Shiva and are the proud builders and protectors of Shivaite temples. Pray for deliverance from this religious stronghold and that one day they might become builders of God's kingdom in India.
• The largest caste among the Marathi are the Mahratta, which are part of the warrior class of Hindu society called Kshatriyas. Today they occupy a majority of the government positions in the state of Maharastra. Pray that God might transform this leadership ability into a church-planting movement of pastors, teachers and evangelists.
