Description: The Karakalpaks ("Kara" meaning black, and "Kalpak" meaning hat) live primarily in northwestern Uzbekistan with smaller populations in Turkey, Iran and other central Asian countries. They emerged as a confederation of related tribes some time in the 15th or 16th centuries.
Prayer Points:
• Missionaries have been forced to leave Uzbekistan. Pray that the work among the Karakalpak will continue through local believers and that God would raise up indigenous leaders among them.
• Many Karakalpak are influenced by sufi Islam, which practices mystical experiences. Pray that this desire to experience God will draw them into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• The New Testament was completed in 2004 in the Karakalpak language. Pray for its widespread use for evangelism and discipleship.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, pour out your spirit upon the Karakalpak. Fill their lives with your hope, redemption and power.
Every year 6,000 Karakalpak die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
