Description: The Bangladeshi Shaikh, also known as the Muslim Bengali, are a cluster of many sub-groups united by the Bengali language and the religion of Islam. They are divided into three classes: Ashraf (upper castes), Aljaf (lower castes), and Arzal (untouchables).
Prayer Points:
• Natural disasters have opened up the doors for development projects in Bangladesh. Many thousands have responded to the gospel as a result, but the emerging church is still heavily dependendant on foreign aid. Pray for a truly indigenous and self-supporting church to be raised up.
• Several Christian leaders have been martyred in Bangladesh recently, and international pressure has been put upon the government of Bangladesh to stop the movement of Christians in the country. Pray for those families that have been affected by persecution and for the protection of future leaders.
• Many Muslims in Bangladesh belong to mystical Sufi orders. Some of the leaders of these groups have had visions of Jesus, leading to the conversion of all their followers. Pray that the Spirit of God might draw the hearts of every Sufi leader to the saving power of Jesus.
