August 18 / Gujarati Muslims

Description: The Gujarati Muslims are a cluster of over 120 Gujarati speaking peoples and castes which converted to Islam beginning in the 8th century through the influence of Arab and Persian traders. Larger communities are the Shaikhs, Pathans and Bohras. Though these groups form an integrated community, they are highly stratified, with high, middle and low castes.

Prayer Points:
• Thousands of Gujarati Muslim homes and businesses were destroyed by Hindus in 2001 and many hundreds were killed. Pray that God might use his people to bring healing and peace to this broken land.
• Tens of thousand of Gujarati Muslims have immigrated to the United Kingdom. Pray that believers there would catch a vision for reaching out to them in practical ways that demonstrate the love of Christ.
• Though the Gujarati Bible is available, it was translated with a Hindu audience in mind. Pray for an adaptation of this translation that would be more seeker friendly to those from a Muslim background.

A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may your heart for the Gujarati Muslims become our heart. Use us as your hands and feet to bring your love to each of them.

Every year 26,000 Gujarati Muslims die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
